Question installing a module

I have downloaded a driver for an HRS modem, unzipped it and recompiled to make it compatible with the RH 8.0 kernel and when I try to 'insmod' it, I get an error that says it was compiled with GCC 2 and that is incompatible. However, RH 8.0 has GCC 3 installed. What is going on ?? I sure would like to use this machine to go on line through RH

are you sure that when you run GCC it is actually compiling with GCC 3 ?? I've had probs similar to this when a softlink pointed in the wrong direction
