icewm shutdown hangs - ok from gdm
Erratic shutdown results from the icewm logout menu. It usually hangs just after "Shutting down Partmon" but not always. No pattern to why it sometimes works.
Selecting logout from icewm then choosing Shutdown from gdm gives a clean shutdown.
I could live with that inconvenience but I am setting up Linux on a friend's laptop (Hey you should try this ... I can set it up ... much better than Windows ...etc etc) and I want it to work well.
There are also permission/ownership/user hassles happening with this setup which may be related to the shutdown problem.
Hoping that I can set icewm to use the same shutdown script as gdm ... if it could be that simple ... but do not know how.
laptop: thinkpad 600x
Distro: Mandrake 10.1 (pruned back severely!)
icewm-1.2.16-2mdk
gdm-2.6.0.4-4mdk
I have tried:
Changing the login settings from Mandrake Control Panel
Enabling/disabling/forcing acpi
enabling/disabling autologin (from Mandrake Control Centre and gdm action menu)
Updating is not a good option - I need the older kernel for the winmodem driver and don't fancy doing a rpm dependency chase with just a dialup connection.
