I have tried everything

Hi

I have tried everything to get my system to dual boot! The windows xp boot loader is fine and two copies of xp are usable through the loader.

The linux partitions are on hdb and the windows ones are on the hda the hda is the one with the windows mbr on it. I have tried making a copy using dd to make bootsect.lnx and then tried to reference it in the boot loader. I have tried to just reference the hd that doesnt work either.

Then something dawned on me. The linux boot disk works straight away. Why cant I remove the files from the bootdisk and refrence them somehow in the xp bootloader?

The contents of the files are illegible apart from that of syslinux.cfg which are

default vmlinuz ramdisk_size=7000 root=/dev/hdb1 vga=normal ro
prompt 1
timeout 6000
display message.txt
F1 f1.txt
F2 message.txt
#F3 f3.txt
#F4 f4.txt
#F5 f5.txt
#F6 f6.txt
#F7 f7.txt
label mount
kernel vmlinuz
append ramdisk_size=7000 root=/dev/hdb1 vga=normal ro
label ramdisk
kernel vmlinuz
append vmlinuz ramdisk_size=7000 root=/dev/fd0u1440 vga=normal rw

what can I do with this?

Thanks

Rob

Why not just install lilo or grub, and have an entry pointing to the Linux install?

Both Lilo and Grub work fine with Windows XP... I'd imagine that approach would be easier than trying to get NTLDR to load up Linux.
