I can't boot my system

Hi to ALL!

Suddenly my system does not start as if he could not read the hard drive.
I do not see the signal from the LED
But through a live CD can mount the partitions of the system and data.
I use Ubuntu 11.04 with Grub2. Is it the case I reinstall it in the MBR?
The following commands can solve my problem?

# mount-t ext4 /dev/sda1 /mnt/system - o rw
# chroot /mnt/system
# grub-install /dev/sda

I thank to you

Hi, I would check the bios settings to see if the drive is enabled to boot from,

ie, first disk is sata or ide, not raid or cd-rom/removeable flash drives.

See how you go.

if that is good, check where the grub is installed, generally /boot with some config set in MBR for grub2 versions

Regards Glenn

Hi Glenn and ALL who are reading!
Yes, the hard drive is SATA and it is enabled for boot, I checked in the BIOS.
The boot files are in /boot
But I don't know how to check where is the grub was installed. How can I check if the bootloader are in the MBR or root partition?
Ubuntu 11.04 uses Grub 2...

Thanks for help!

From the live cd run these commands

sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt

sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda

This should get you going,

Most of the grub files will reside in /boot, there are a few in the mbr pointing to the partition where the distro / is installed.

Most linux distros will list the cdrom or dvdrom are listed as /dev/SRO or cdrom or media.

If there is a single hd I have always found them to be sda or hda.

Hi to ALL!
I solved my problem reinstalling the system.
My data were in another partition than the system and then I had no problem. The big problem is I have to reinstall all software and plugins.
Thanks for all who helped me.
