httpd keeps crashing

I hope someone can help with this, but httpd keeps stopping on my server.

It is off because it doesn't properly stop, you can still get the process ids by running pidof httpd

It isn't possible to restart or stop it using the service command so to get it working again I have to killall and then start - which isn't the best way - so I need to get it fixed properly.

In the error log, there are lots of the following:

sh: line 1: --no-headers: command not found

but towards the end there is this:

sh: line 1: --no-headers: command not found
[Tue Feb 20 03:01:23 2007] [notice] SIGUSR1 received. Doing graceful restart
accept_mutex_on: Identifier removed
[Tue Feb 20 03:01:26 2007] [notice] Apache/1.3.37 (Unix) PHP/4.4.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2510 mod_ssl/2.8.28 OpenSSL/0.9.7a configured -- resuming normal operations
[Tue Feb 20 03:01:26 2007] [notice] suEXEC mechanism enabled (wrapper: /usr/local/apache/bin/suexec)
[Tue Feb 20 03:01:26 2007] [notice] Accept mutex: sysvsem (Default: sysvsem)
[Tue Feb 20 03:01:26 2007] [alert] Child 3655 returned a Fatal error... \nApache is exiting!

if that helps to identify the problem?

Thank for your help

EDIT:

I actually found what it was in the end - I have Cast control installed on the server and when it processed shoutcast logs, it caused httpd to crash if the logs were big. I simply deleted the logs folder so that they are no longer created and it hasn't crashed since.

sh: line 1: --no-headers: command not found
AFAIK the only util that uses "--no-headers" would be "ps", so there's a problem with running ps with some arguments. If you "sh -x /location/of/script 2>&1" you could see what's going on.

[alert] Child 3655 returned a Fatal error... \nApache is exiting!
Is that all the errors? What your distro and release? What Apache package version? If not a package, compiled yourself? If compiled yourself, did you make any [url="http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/misc/perf-tuning.html#compiletime"]non-default choices (see "accept Serialization - multiple sockets")? Is there a specific reason to run 1.3 and not the .n series?
