How to write script file in Linux?

I'm using Suse Linux version 10.

I need help to write a script that runs daily every hour that does this:

cd /u1/database/prod/arch
chmod -R o+rw /u1/database/prod/arch
gzip -f -r *

Then you should download copies of the Beginners Bash Scripting Guide, the Advanced Bash Scripting Guide, as well as guides/tutorials on awk and python. There are other scripting languages, but those I've named are the most common, in my opinion.

PS: once you've written the script to do what you want to do, the set up a cron job or at job to run the script at a given time: daily, hourly, every minute, whatever.

I recommend starting with Bash Guide for Beginners--Machtelt Garrels

For serious scripting, also consider the O'Reilly book "Classic Shell scripting"
