How to use Midnight Commander with a Rescue Disk

I bought a Rescue disk (SystemRescueCd1.6.0) and I'm trying to figure out how it works. It has MC on it and the directories and files in it are simulated, it reads that they are from a Gento distro. I don't imagine that the file systems will mount automatically but how are the file systems mounted to an O.S running off of a CD,Mnt /cd/rom? just kidding but I have not a clue.

Thanks in advance!

Their documentation seems rather sketchy: http://www.sysresccd.org/Quick-start...e_console_mode

The files and directories are not similuated, but they are virtual. They are in a Ramdisk.

You would need to know how the file systems are being seen by the rescue cd. Running fdisk -l should tell you that. Once you know that, the rest is easy.

Then you would mount them by creating a mount point in /mnt or /media, followed by issuing the mount command.

http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/mounting.html

Once the drive is mounted, you can navigate in mc to the mount point you created and take a look at the files and directories.

I would suggest using a GUI environment until you get the hang of this. SystemRescueCD provides one.

If that's not adequate or if it is confusing, download and burn a copy of Knoppix.
