how to transfer process to another terminal?

How can I send a job running in one bash instance to another? I tried disowning the job, and resuming it with a "fg %cmd" from another terminal, but that doesn't work.

Have you looked into using GNU screen to attach and detach from running processes? It may be a little overkill for your needs, but it would do what you want.

I just read a post that mentioned that. I could do that in the future but I have a long long build going and am probably only going to need this once.
