How to stop a app trying to display LOT of text from looking all grey..
Hey ive just noticed sometimes when using what can be any application under kde if the application is "doing a lot" or has a ton of text to display, then say if i tab it down to the tray then bring it back up the app is all grey and i cant see the text, im sure this is normal when a program is perhaps trying to display to much text but im wondering is there any way to fix this so i can actually use my app again, i thought if i just kept it there for a while it would eventually load but apperntenly not, anyone know a fix for this? and hopefully understand what im talking about? thanks.
heres a screenshot of an example of limewire after selecting about 200 d/l's for downloading then minmizing it and bringing it back up again

How much RAM do you have?
Have you tried a lighter window manger such as Fluxbox, Window Maker, or IceWM?
You might try removing unneeded services from startup.
thanks but thats not the problem. this is from too much text trying to be displayed, the app still runs fine and is not messsed up, and i have recovered from this before with diff apps just messing around with them eventually loaded all the stuff to be displayed, i use fluxbox sometimes though im sure the same thing would happen there as well, ive got about 168mb ram
I think the app may just be too busy doing processing to redraw itself. Anything that speeds up your machine will help solve this problem, from using a less processor intensive GUI to buying more RAM and a faster CPU.
In other words, it's not because the app is trying to display text that it is slowing down, it's just trying to do too many other things at the same time. I had the same problem with old versions of Azureus.
I have one good bit of advice for getting cheap hardware in this country -- Linux User Groups. My housemade got a 22" Sony monitor for a tenner from someone on Bris/Bath LUG mailing list.
I've given up on having a decent machine until I graduate and get a job. Money's too precious to spend on electronics.
