how many processors are there in my server


Hi,

When I went to check with my remote server ,I found the following results.My question is , whether this box is having four processors or not?
I suddenly got struct, as my local linux box shows 2 cpu info, but physically there is one.

The answer lies in the "flags". In the list of flags, you'll see "ht" listed for HyperThreading. This makes each of your dual-core processors appear to Linux as 2. So, 2 "virtual" processors x 2 cores gives your 4.

AMD processors don't have hyperthreading; that's hypertransport, which is quite different.

Isn't this two dual core processors, making four cores?

Note the "physical id" numbers. There are only 2 distinct physical ids in both cases posted, therefore 2 procs in both. The latter mobo - does it have space for 4 procs? I've never seen a physical id of '3' before.

It has two physical CPUs, each of which has two cores.

Look at the physical id's and the core id's and the number of cores and (somewhat redundant) the number of siblings.

You have two different physical id's. 0 and 1. So you have two physical CPUs.

Each physical id has two different core id's. Physical 0 has cores 0 and 1. Physical 1 has cores cores 2 and 3. But that just tells you two logical processors per CPU. It doesn't actually tell you whether they are cores (vs. hyperthreading).

The "cpu cores" tells you there 2 cores per cpu. The siblings redundantly tells you there are 2 logical processors per CPU. So both views of logical processors per CPU match cores per CPU, so there hyperthreading is either unavailable or disabled. (Of course, since it is AMD, we know there is no hyperthreading).

All that info you quoted is consistent for two physical CPUs of 2 cores each.

I've seen it a lot and on mobo's that do not have room for 4 CPUs. I don't know how the id's are assigned. I just know to count how many different id's there are and skip over any gaps.
