How do you edit the /etc/fstab file in RedHat9.0

Okay all,

I would like to edit my /etc/fstab file so that i can mount a partition automatically upon start up. However, i do not know how to edit this file.

Here is a copy of my current fstab file:

LABEL=/ / ext3 defaults 1 1
LABEL=/boot /boot ext3 defaults 1 2
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
/dev/hda9 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,owner,kudzu 0 0
/dev/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom1 udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0

And here is what I put in to manually mount my partition:

mount /dev/hda6 /mnt/Windows -tvfat -o,u,umask=2220

Use any text based editor like vi, pico or nano, etc. If your not familiar with vi, use pico, its almost self-explanatory.

At a terminal or console type:

pico /etc/fstab

And edit it accordingly, save, reboot or run mount -a to mount your newly added entries.

Depending on how you have things setup, you may have to be the 'root' user to edit fstab.

when i edit fstab is login as root, then open a console and type gedit /etc/fstab

this opens fstab in gedit and when i'm done editing i just save like any normal file.

hope this helps
