Help with video editing

I'm trying to edit a video, all I want to do is crop a little bit off the top but so far I've had no luck with google. Could anyone please guide me on how to do this?

My distro is Debian Lenny.

I find avidemux to be very easy to use. It's a frontend for ffmpeg, mplayer, and other transcoding tools. Simply load in the video, set the output format (no doubt to the same as the input), and configure the "crop" filter from the transform filter toolset. Then just save the output and you're done.

You can also use the cli tools like ffmpeg directly, but you'll have to read through the man pages to figure out the parameters to use.

I would have to read the man pages unless someone posts the command I need with a clearly marked "change this value to change the amount removed" "wink" "wink"

Nah just kidding avidemux is just what I was looking for I found it easy to do the croping I wanted
