Help with Mdadm and raid5

FedoraForums.org thread!<This is my thread with some previous info I'm having issue with from the Fedora forums. I'm wondering if anyone can help!(I'm assuming the rules on cross post is in reference to threads within websites forums so I'm assuming I"m not violating any rules!)

What info might be needed to help figure this out? I'll post whatever is needed I just need to know what it is. And possibly how to do it! 8)

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. I thought linking this would give me a better shot at some answers(And not repost info). The Fedora forums seems to not be getting any responses.

Any idea what is wrong with my raid. Or how I get it fixed? I'm really not certain. And it seems up in the air from my standpoint so I'm not sure what to do. (Obviously, I haven't use mdadm that much! 8p) I'm trying to get more info than less though so I don't have to loose my data. There is just too much atm for me to swim through to figure it out without risking anything! And I'm currently not getting far enough on my own to resolve this efficiently.

BTW "sudo mdadm --detail....." reports that thread says raid0, but the "Disks" program says it's:

Code:
Under Raid arrays on the left:
"
RAID Array
0(raid5)"

------------------
On the right it has:

"
(Icon)RAID Array
/dev/md127

Name 0(local at **********)<******=previous/current user name - MoBo name.
Size of 0.0kb(0bytes)
RAID level RAID5, 3disks
Bitmap Toggle(currently off)
State Running"

Volumes:

Code:
"
Block device is empty."
" Size: - Device /dev/md127 Contents -"

I'm not sure what all of this comes too.

All raid members are listed above in "Disk Drives" and say they are part of raid member with which, when you click "Go To Array," link to the above. They also contain the same raid array name and are all 250gb members.

I have not tried to remake the array by adding them together or anything that would put them together as a raid array prior to installing Fedora20. So it is from them being previously in the raid from being installing Fedora. And I have switched from various versions of ubuntu and linux mint with no problems. I just usually downloaded one of the Guis for drives and got it to re-activate then manualy put in in Fstab to automount.. I just can't remember or find the program that let me do it.

Edit: Is it me or does it seem like no questions on Raid5 or mdadm every get resolved on any linux forums... I've looked at the links at the bottom and they are basically never answered! And other ones are answered so specifically it does not portray any information that might help anyone who is not in the exact same situtation. Which doesn't happen.

I find the information in that previous thread a bit jumbled and confusing, so why not take it from the start:

1) How many md devices appear in /dev? (ls -l /dev/md*)

2) Could you post the output for mdadm --detail for each device?

3) Which partitions or devices were originally part of the RAID 5 array?

4) When you installed Fedora from scratch, which devices/partitions did you use as root and swap?

5) Please port the output from fdisk -l.

(Oh, and it must be just you, as plenty of RAID/mdadm questions get resolved here. )

solved my problem: a cable came lose of one of the raid disks.
I do not understand why it could happen ... This is why we have raid? to make sure a disk can fail?
Anyway. For other people out there looking for an answer:
- stop your raid
Quote:
# sudo mdadm --stop /dev/mdxxx
- check your disks' ID's
Quote:
# blkid (This will take a while)
- your raid disks will have the same UUID. See if they are all there. If they are, do the following, if they are not, skip this step:
Quote:
# mdadm --assemble /dev/mdxxx --uuid=the common uuid
- examine your disks if it didn't work or one is missing (if one is missing I strongly suggest checking if it's even turning)
Quote:
# mdadm --examine /dev/sda1 (a is the number of the harddisk, 1 is the partition, naturally being 1)
- and have a read at the kernel wiki. https://raid.wiki.kernel.org/index.p..._using_--force
