Help with Mandriva2006 on Gateway 8510 Notebook

Hi friends
I just installed Mandriva2006 on my new Gateway 8510 Notebook , with ATI redon 700 graphics card.
but the fonts look so hazy n blurred.

I tried copying the truetype fonts from windows directory to /tiger/fonts folder.
Rebooted the machine. Opened the install fonts option.
It did something like I saw 2-3 progress bars working.
But the resolution or fonts are still same.

Can anyone pl guide me ? I am a total newbee to linux.

Thanks

Save this as .fonts.conf in your home directory.Restart X
http://abbottdavid.com/styles/fonts.config
If it helps, great if not just deleate it.
