Help on upgrading KDE

So, I've got SuSE Linux 9.0 and my question is...: how do I upgrade KDE or install it next to my old KDE (and update the login screen accordingly)?

Command line.
directory that has your rpms.
rpm -Uvh *.rpm

Check if you need any extra packages installed and ignore any other comments about conflicting or already installed.

Install other packages it says it needs first... things like "gnokii?"

go back to command line.
rpm -Uvh --nodeps --replacefiles --force *.rpm

Reboot. Login. Done.

And the login screen is updated automaticly?
And is this way to replace the existing KDE or does it install next to the existing version (I would rather have the last one).
