Angry HELP! How Do I Revert back to Windohs - errasing Linux from a HD

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Well, I've tried F-Disk, I've tried Format .... what am I not doing right??? I'm trying to use this 1.3G HD for a real basic Win 2K system for some software/hardware that is not Linux compatable ... otherwise I would have left it Linux.

Since I f-disked and formated the drive, Now all that happens when I boot, it goes through the POST test, then displays LI , then locks there..... I hope I didn't fry the HD

As you can guess ...I'm totally new to Linux. I have Redhat 7.0.... so if someone can tell me in detail how to revert this HD back for windohs use, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Welcome to LQ.

You'll need to use the Windows' fdisk util with the undocumented switch /mbr: fdisk /mbr. If you are intending on installing Windows, then you shouldn't need to do this, since the installation will sort it for you... you should only need to do this if you have an existing Windows installation. Alternatively, you could try a 3rd party bootloader, such as XOSL the eXtended Operating System Loader.

You also need to change bios setup, so the cdrom is the first boot option, the dead lilo resides on your harddisk!!
