help authenticating on NT domain


i have configured my linux box to authenticate to NT domain but when i restart my machine and get to the login prompt under the domain field all i see is local and the last nt domain i logged in to. i tried to log back in to the nt domain but i get login failed. i log in locally, wait couple of minutes and logout and try to log back to domain and then the list of available domains are there and i am able to log into my nt domain. why does this happen and can i change so my nt domain is availabe as soon as i get to the login screen.
