problem with vga ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 SERIES

hello friends
i am from greece new to linux community.
i had an old pentium ii 330mhz and i was trying to install linux with no luck.
Now i upgraded with pentium iV 3ghz with 512mbytes memory and motherboard ASUS and graphics card is... ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 SERIES on the motherboard and monitor is vga SIEMENS NIXDORF with 1024Χ768 resolution.

i installed suse linux 10.0 32bit version but when it boot i see the menu and i press suse linux and it tries to start but the screen chancges gray with an X in the middle, and system restarts...
i believe the problem is with the graphics card (or the monitor) any idea?

when i start suse linux in dos mode it is working ok (although i do not know linux to write something....) i prefer to see it working in windows mode..!!

Best regards
Nektarios

Hi Nectarie, welcome to LQ.
Since you can boot in dos mode (btw it's console mode or cli) login as root and run:
Code:
sax2
to configure your vga card. You can also use
Code:
xorgcfg
or
xorgconfig
or
xorgsetup
whichever is available in Suse.
You can take a look in linux.gr for further help

Regards

hi my friend
thank you very much for your help
i did xorgconfig
and i entered all the elements monitor, vga, mouse, resolution
but..... same
it gives a nasty gray screen with an X in the middle and after some seconds system reboots...

i think i will use partition magic and...
return to my old good windows xp
i think linux is free but far..... from a good steady platform to work with....
