Have both Linux POP OS and LINUX MINT, need to remove POP OS-How to

I loaned a computer I was not using at the time to a friend and he returned it when the one I was using gave up.

He installed both POP OS and Linux Mint on the only hard drive, each utilizing one half the drive.

I wish to keep LINUX MINT and remove POP OS, can somebody tell me how to do so in simple directions an 78 year old retired cop can understand, PLEASE.

Do you have short term plans for the space POP OS occupies now, or are you more interested in not having a boot menu where it can be selected, and may be the undesired current default? If no plans, it might be wiser to keep it for a while as a backup or maintenance tool.

Output from sudo parted -l pasted here (using code tags) should help us in formulating responses.

The One (1) TB Drive is an external drive for backups, some of the others are built in card readers.

The simplest way to remove the PopOS partition(s) would be to format them. If you have 6 partitions, you need to find out which is which if you do not know now. Are you able to boot booth Mint and Pop? Which has the default bootloader? If the Pop bootloader is used to boot both itself and Mint, you will need to first install Grub from Mint to either the MBR or the EFI partition on the drive.

Actually, there are a number of questions which will need to be answered and the best way to do this is to use the boot repair tool. You can use it from either Pop or Mint and get it and download it from the site below. Read the instructions on the page, download it and run it as instructed. Do NOT try to make any repairs! Select the 2nd option described on the page to download from the ppa repository. AFter downloading, use the option to Create Boot Info Summary. When it finishes, you will get a link on a pop up window. Post that link here so members can access the information and help.

If you are trying to add an image or other info, mouse over the various icons at the top of the page when you are entering your message to find the one you want.

I think the simplest thing to do in the long run would be back up anything you want to keep to external media and reinstall Mint from scratch. During the reinstallation, you can select manual partitioning (I forget the exact terminology), then configure the partitions as you wish. Then you can restore your saved data from backup.

I would suggest putting /home (and of course /swap) on its own separate partition.

Another tactic would be to reformat the partitions you have no use for, add them to /etc/fstab in Mint, and symlink them to your /home as additional storage.

A couple of thoughts.

I just finished backing up all my files and will do just as you suggested and just re-install Mint. I have an older version that has no been updated, so I will install the latest version.

I can not thank you enough for your assistance.

Wish I had the knowledge and know how to assist others, maybe I will learn as I go.

Don't worry, you will! We all started out here asking for help, and most of us have ended up giving it.
