grub ./config error

Hi
I'm trying to configure grub but i get the below error:

Quote:
checking if C symbols get an underscore after compilation... no
checking whether objcopy works for absolute addresses... no
configure: error: GRUB requires a working absolute objcopy; upgrade your binutils
It seems im not the only one with this error, theres a few few similar posts on the net but no solutions. I had the error with .93,.94 and .95. Im using slack 10 with the most recent binutils, objcopy exists and seems to work.

What gives ?

grab all the files off a knoppix cd instead. I assume you know where to put them and where to grab them?
then reboot to your distro and run the grub commands to install it to mbr.

Thanks for the idea, that might work but i'd have to download knoppix again

Im gonna play around with objcopy again, and see what the problem is. When i get hold of knoppix again ill try yor idea out and report back
