Getting ready for RH 8.0 , any suggestions

Hi guys im in the process of DLing RH 8.0( all 5 ISO cds)
I was wondering what software from the 5 CDs I have to make sure I install in order for my hardware to be fully functional. Like in Mandrake 9.0 you have to make sure that the kernel-source is installed from the 3rd CD to get the Nvidia video card working.
I want to do a minimal install , and I can figure out by now what commerical apps I want , but am unsure as to what kind of core sysytem fils I need. I surely dont want to install all 5 CDs.
My specs are.

AMD XP 2200 +
ECS K7S5A mobo.
512 MB DDR 266 RAM.
WD 60 and WD 40 GB HDDs
Nvidia Geforce 4ti 4400 vid card.
LG CD rom
Lite-on CD-RW.
Logitech USB mouse
Microsoft PS2 keyboard.
Samsung Monitor.
Creative Live 5.1 PCI sound card.
SIS 10/100 built in LAN.

I'm not sure - as I've just moved from Red Hat 7.3 to Slackware 8.1 (so I haven't tested RH 8.0) - but I don't think you will need all five ISO's. Only three of them. The last two are just source files.

Source files? Ok could you define source files. Like I said with Mandrake you needed kernel-source installed to get the Nvidia drivers working. IS this the kind of source file you mean?

No, kernel-source is on one of those three discs. On the last two discs are source files for all the applications that are part of Red Hat distro.

You can check here:

I just downloaded the first 3 discs. You don't need the last two. I don't remember which disc has the kernel-sources but I think it's disc two. I did a default install with development stuff and it only needed the first two cd's.

Good Luck

Disk 4 and 5 are source files, and if you bought it like me you get a documentation cd 6

i am new to linux but know that with linux you need to share your source code, and the source code is the code behind all of redhat 8. Like programming code. You dont need em for installing.

I never used the 3rd cd, only the first 2 becasue i only did a minimum install with no server or development tools.

It only installs what you want it to install (apps and extras) and it will install all the crap it needs to run..otherwise it wont run. So what you choose to install and what it needs to run will be what it installs.
It will get the required files off the CD's so its best if you downlaod all 3 in case you need it now or later.
