getting crazy on loopback-encryption

Hi,

I just tried to install loop-aes, the loopback encryption filesystem on
my system... and I just get totally insane with this stuff.

I read several howtos, information etc about it, and went to
http://loop-aes.sourceforge.net/loop-AES.README and followed
the readme file.

No way.

I just dont get it to work, when I try to run "make tests" it gives me a

dd if=/dev/zero of=test-file1 bs=1024 count=10
10+0 records in
10+0 records out
cp test-file1 test-file3
make test-part2 CT=XOR ITER=0 HF=sha256 MD=7ccb0383a96c720652cfe7c73371ea91 TF=test-file1 PSW=12345678901234567890
make[1]: Entering directory `/downloads/tools/encryption/loop-aes/loop-AES-v1.7e'
echo 12345678901234567890 | /sbin/losetup -p 0 -e XOR -H sha256 -C 0 /dev/loop7 test-file1
/sbin/losetup: invalid option -- p
usage:
/sbin/losetup loop_device # give info
/sbin/losetup -d loop_device # delete
/sbin/losetup [ -e encryption ] [ -o offset ] loop_device file # setup
make[1]: *** [test-part2] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/downloads/tools/encryption/loop-aes/loop-AES-v1.7e'
make: *** [tests] Error 2

and when I try to encrypt something , it says either "encryption not supported" or ioctl: LOOP_SET_STATUS: Invalid argument.

One thing i just dont understand in the readme file is the line where
it says
"patch -p1 <../util-linux-2.12pre.diff"

Well. I dont have such a file in my tarball, nor can i find it anywhere.

Maybe it is because it is not patched by this named file.
But it is not available. Very, very strange indeed.

Did someone succeed in installing it? Maybe he could help me on this,
because i get totally in wrong ways everytime i search on the net on this.

hopeless,
shad

I guess you need the patch for it to work, I do not know this for sure but you should try it

you can get the patch by searching for

util-linux-2.12pre

it will probably be a tar file.

then follow the instructions and it should work.

So how did you finally get this to work/where did you actually find the .diff file?

GOT IT!!!

Finally found it. The .diff file the readme speaks of is actually in the loop-AES-v1.7e tarball, so once it is uncompressed you can find the file under loop-AES-v1.7e/util-linux-2.12pre.diff. Hope this helps....
