Files sizes?

Machine 1 : SUSE9.2/WinXP dual boot
Machine 2 : Debian 3.0

I'm trying to copy files from machine 1 to machine 2, and I having a few problems. I have about 65GB's worth of files to copy.
I have a 68GB partition mounted as /home on the second machine, however whatever method I try to copy the files (in SUSE or WinXP, using NFS or Samba) I cannot complete to copy due to the 68GB being full, because the files appear to take up more room on the second machines drive than they do on the first?

Am I missing something here? Why is this?

What type of filesystem is /home on the Debian PC? If it is ext3 then by default 5% is reserved for root. So you really only have approx 64.6 GB of actual free space. If this is the case then use tune2fs to decrease the amount of reserved space.
