There are no dumb questions.
Unless you want to reconfigure the install by writing code, you should stick with the non-source version. Part of the linux lure is that you are able to control every aspect of the OS.
BTW I don't like to push distros on anyone; but I used to really enjoy RH/Fedora and Mandrake, however Fedora has gotten worse with every release and I have switched to SUSE which has been awesome right out of the box. It's not that I don't like Fedora, but I think since it is a public release offshoot of Redhat it has become a feedback kind of thing where they want to check things out. Thats not a bad thing either it helps to develop code for linux. Good luck with the distro it will be fun no matter what.
