Enabling MySQL Query log

Hi, I am running mysql-5.1.61-1.el6_2.1.i686 and trying to enable the query log, so that each SQL command is logged, i.e. 'show databases', or 'select *'....

I've tried several techniques such as adding entries to my.cnf and running a global query log enable, and neither actually log any of the SQL commands to disk.

Since this is the most silent thread in my watch list, why dont I kick off the ball...this is what I found after a look-see
