Enable SMT on Clovertown Multi-Core architecture?

I'm configuring the 2.6.19.2 (kernel.org) linux kernel for a machine with two Quad-core Xeon 5310 Clovertown processors.

I've enabled SMP for dual processor support

I've enabled Multi-core for multi-core support

Now, the question is: Should I also activate SMT (Hyperthreading) scheduler support or will that just drive down performance?

Thankful for any advice,

Soren
