Email code works in Firefox but not Chromium

OS = Ubuntu 10.4
Email = Thunderbird 3.1.16
Web Browser = Firefox 10.0 and Chromium 18.0.996.0

Code:
[meail=example@example.com,]reach me via e-mail[/email]
(email above is mis-spelled to induce an error so it will display)
Code:
<a href="mailto:example@example.com">reach me via e-mail</a>
Both these code examples works as expected in Firefox but only produces an empty email write page in Chromium.

After 3 hours of searching and reading this board, 3wSchool and several google tries, I have failed to find another mention of this problem.
I am more concerned that the members of my club can use the link than me. I only have Ubuntu OS. Will it work on IE and Apple.

You can view the problem in action at this to links.
Code:

Any feed back would be appreciated.

even if you spell it right, no browser will render that as a clickable e-mail link. Some forum software, however, may transform that into a real e-mail link.

What is it that you expect - other than opening the "Compose" window of the system's default mail client? Because that's exactly what it does. If you're lucky, the mail client recognizes the recipient's address and fills it in the appropriate field. But that depends on your local configuration of browser and mail client.

My apologies for the delay in responding. I've been off visiting the nurses in the hospital.

Copy and paste from my webpage:
Code:
<a href="mailto:someone@example.net?subject=I%20want%20help%20at%20the%20auction">e-mail</a>
Copy and paste from W3School webpage:
Code:
<a href="mailto:someone@example.com?Subject=Hello%20again">
Under Firefox both call up the default "Thunderbird" email client. Fills in the 'mailto:' and 'subject' space.
Under Chromium both call up the default 'Thunderbird' email client. Does not fill in the 'mailto:' space, and does fill in the 'subject' space.

I would like the email compose window to appear with the recipient and subject filled in.

then I assume Chromium simply doesn't support that. As I said, it depends on the configuration and capabilities of both browser and mail client. They have to work hand in hand on that.
As for T-Bird, it does support being passed the recipient and the subject, which you confirm using Firefox (and I can tell it also works with Opera, and even Internet Explorer on Windows). Chromium, however, doesn't seem to pass these parameters along when it calls the mail client. I don't know Chromium that well, so I'm not sure if it can be configured for better support of "mailto" links, or if it simply sucks.
My guess is the latter.

Thank you for the response. You have answered my question. I worded it wrong and we wound up on a tangent.
I wanted to know it work in IE. You said it did.
