Well, I'd say if you paid for Knoppix and are new to Linux, go ahead and spin the live CD for awhile and don't worry about Red Hat. Don't know why everybody's trying to push you to another distro and if they were pushing they should push you to Slack. I wouldn't even worry about installing to hard drive immediately unless you really wanted to. Just get comfortable with the filesystem and the interfaces - experiment with commands because, on a CD, it'd be hard to do much real harm. Then, when you feel comfortable with it, install it or then go distro hunting. You'll be better able to appreciate the characteristics of the different distros at that point. Knoppix is pretty nifty, so enjoy it.
If you really want to download something, though, www.linuxiso.org might do you.
So would maybe downloading and installing RedHat be a better idea,
The copy of knoppix that i have has both features when you boot it, either full install or "live"
should i go with the dual boot , knoppix , win2k
or should i maybe try RedHat, at this point i'm lost....
I am not familiar w/ Knoppix, but if it gives you an option for full install, go for it. I've heard many good things about it, so I bet you should be able to dual-boot it just fine with Windows.
If you try it and it doesn't work, RedHat is definitely an option for you, though I think Mandrake would be easier for to use, and SuSE would probably be easier than RedHat also. RedHat has caused me all kinds of problems in the past.
