distro for backing up / compressing dvds

hi,
i was just curious if there was a distro that would be easy/good for backing up and compressing dvds or video files. i have a windows x64 and would like to utilize both cores to compress video files. suggestions? i know many can do it, i just was looking for one that might be compiled for it....?

When it comes down to it, the kernels for all the distros are all the same, and they use the same source for their programs. Here's the guide I used to rip my DVDs to ISO files. I see there is something in there about compression, but I've never used it.

You can do that stuff with just about any distro but those are resource intensive activities. If that's all you want to do, than look for a distro that takes up as little overhead as possible and don't run any services you don't need.

For example, (and not to promote one distro and knock another) comparatively speaking a Slackware default install will leave you with more resource for that kind of work than a default Mandriva install. It's the nature of each one installs lean with less services running and the other heavier with mor services running.
