I have set up a streaming webcam with a creative webcam pro and camserv, however, the delay is on the order of 300 ms which is too great for the application I would like to use it for. I am wondering if there is a direct method of reading the streaming video data through the usb port and displaying it onto the computer that would eliminate the delay caused by the buffer in the camserv program. It is not necessary to have it accessible via the web, I just need it to display onto the screen directly through the usb port with minimal delay. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Xawtv will stream your video input (usb) to your monitor very well

xawtv actually has a greater delay than camserv, that is one of the reasons that I swtiched to camserv.
