ok,
X-server is used when you wanna run GUI application on a remote system.
For example, I have an x-server running on my windows machine to run a gui app on my linux box thru a terminal telnet window. I am using X-thin-pro x-server on my windows machine, so when I telnet to my linux box, I can run GUI app
.
ALso on the Linux box off course I have an X-server running too. It's the one that got installed by default with RedHat 7.0. I need it to login to linux box using GUI interface, otherwise it will be all text and command line stuff.
This is all. That is the sad story...

Let me know if you have any other questions...
