desktop shortcuts are gone

so i don't know why, but when i was using nautilis it glitched and all the desktop shortcuts i had disappeared. now they are gone permanently even when i reboot. when i right click onthe desktop nothing happens. its like it doesn't exist. not even the background image is there even though in the configurator i select the picture. i'm using madrake 8.2. thanx

Maybe this helps:
click with middle button of the mouse(if it has two click both at the same time) in the desktop and open a terminal.
Then type gmc &.
