Debian updating grub to point to new kernel image
Hello,
I've used Gentoo Linux for the past 7 years, and I've gotten used to the simplicity of simply moving your compiled kernel image into /boot , and editing boot.conf
It doesn't seem to be that simple in Debian. I have a compiled kernel "bzImage" that I have moved to /boot and want to include in my grub menu... I asked on #freenode IRC, and everyone freaked out and asked why I was compiling a kernel to begin with. I know Linux gets more and more, um....user friendly, with each passing year, but surely Debian users still compile their own kernels.
If I have my bzImage (named kernel-2.6) which resides in /boot how do I update grub? Someone said to use update-grub, but nothing I am doing is working.
EDIT: SOLVED - update-grub requires that the kernel in /boot begin with vmlinuz
