SDEHOME=/home/sde/sdeexe83
export SDEHOME

#compress the geodatabase
$SDEHOME/bin/sdeversion -o compress -i esri_sde -u sde -p sde

this task is saved as compress.sh and I did change the permission for everyone had the right to execute it. when I execute this job mannualy, it ran successfully. below is the snapshot of this job.

[sde@mycomputer MYDATABASE]$ ./compress.sh

Compress state tree: Are you sure? (Y/N): y

[sde@mycomputer MYDATABASE]$

when I put this job in the cronjob as follow

56 13 * * * cd /home/sde/stuffs/scripts/mydatabase && yes | /home/sde/stuffs/scripts/mydatabase/compress.sh

it never executed and I kept getting the error on the mail:

Code:
cd /home/sde/stuffs/scripts/mydatabase && yes | /home/sde/stuffs/scripts/mydatabase/compress.sh
What's the purpose of the yes in this snippet?

Without a parameter it will only output y until you
stop it?

Cheers,
Tink
