console font is just showing garbage

On one of my consoles the font has changed to garbage, basically what I done was cat a compressed file by mistake and it simply threw garbage scrolling onto the screen. Now when I try to do anything on that screen it is simply garbage. All other consoles work fine, ie CTRL-ALT-F2 etc.

I know I can sort it by rebooting, but would ideally like to get it back without doing so, any ideas?

Thanks...

Try just typing 'reset'. You won't be able to see what you're typing, but it should work anyway. There's a control <key> sequence as well, I think, but I can't remember what it is.

Yes you can type reset for refreshing the console.
If it doesn't works, you should run

#loadkeys /lib/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwerty/defkeymap.map.gz (whatever)
#setfont /lib/kbd/consolefonts/default8x16.psfu.gz (whatever)
#reset
