you need a compiler to compile - the configure script will usuall look in /usr/bin, /usr/local/bin and /bin for the compilers - if they're not there, then it returns the not found error.
cheers...another small question does anyone know how too install the thing easily??? The gcc website seems really complex in its explanation... Thanks once again to anyone
just install the rpm's from the cd. it's all on there, just make the dependecncies happy and you'll eb done in no time. use gnorpm for a gui, or just plain "rpm" on a console. "man rpm" for info.
ok........ how do i make the dependencies happy??? I have installed gcc from the cd using rpm but theres seems to be a problem with trying to compile the configure script. I tried installing using rpms using rpm -ta gcc or rpm -ba gcc, but that doesnt work.. is thiswhat you mean by installing the rpms?? i ended up just using the rpm -ih gcc method then untarring the tar ball.. this is where i hit rocks.. if there is anyone out there that can help me it would be great as this is really annoyingnot being able to compile
no, -ba will create an rpm from source. just install them with "rpm -iv file.rpm" please always refer to howtos and man pages before resorting to posting questions and havnig to wait however many hours for an answer. it's a lot quicker
