Chmod Problem

Hi all,

Recently I attached external terabyte drive on my machine. And I mounted at 10.10.11.105:/mnt/disk1 locally. When I try to change the file permission from ftp browser, I am able to change the permission. But when I try to change the file permission from command line I am getting a error chmod: changing permissions of `/usr/ym/testing.txt': Operation not permitted

Please help me

I infer that this is an ethernet drive--ie Network attached storage (NAT). I do not understand the meaning of "mounting" to 10.10.11.105:/mnt/disk1.

When you say change file permissions from "ftp browser", I think you mean that you are using a browser to bring up a GUI interface to the drive. Yes?

Finally, the chmod error: What is the full path in this mode---how do we relate /usr/ym/etc to the previous description of how the drive was mounted?

Thanks for the reply,

Let me explain clearly about my setup

Drive specifications

Mounted as /usr/ym/backup/
Type :Network Filesystem (nfs)
Location : 10.10.11.105:/mnt/disk1

I am using Wsftp software to copy files from remote location. When tried to create a folder using Wsftp client to make a directory” I am getting permission 750 for the folder. When I am trying to create a folder using shell prompt I am getting permission 755. I uploaded a file to backup directory, When I try to change the permission I am getting error chmod: changing permissions of `/usr/ym/kjsi/sridhar1/interface_frm.php': Operation not permitted. But when I try to change the file permission from Wsftp client the file permission is getting changed.

Please help me.

Thanks.
