Chatroom Retard

After a little over a year with my i486 and linux I decided to try a chatroom through netscape (since it was JAVA - I usually use Opera). I have some collectibles I wanted to find out about. It was like input from hell. Too slow and skipping letters. Very embarrasing and frustrating. What is the deal? Too slow a computer? Anything I can alter? I had to kill netscape through qps just to get out of it. Some kind of JAVA Apple applet was running.

java applets can be resource hogs.. that was probably the issue in your case in which a i486 couldn't handle very well..
