Hi

I'm pretty new to linux but decided that I wanted to give gentoo a try - I already run mandrake 9 and win xp I created new parttions for it and have installed it from within mandrake using their documentation.

Everything seems to have gone well but I can't boot into Gentoo!

After several attempts at different methods I have installed grub on the boot partition of the gentoo system and I think it should work fine, however mandrake uses lilo as the boot manager. All I want to do is point lilo to grub on partion hda,8 but I can't find any references to how to do this using google, all I find is people saying this is a good idea - not how to do it!

I don't see why you can't install grub to the MBR to boot all distros.

I kept getting errors when trying to install grub from inside gentoo, it would only let me install it in the partition and not the mbr, i have now configured through a little educated guess work just by pointing lilo to the partition using the other= variable.

Sadly I've done something wrong as it gets to "Uncompressing Kernel... loading kernel" and hangs I managed to find one webpage that said I'd probably compiled iwth the wrong processor support but I went through the whole compilation again with the corect processor and still no joy - where do I go from here?!
