Cannot open rar files

I have downloaded several rar files. I have the latest version of unrar installed but when I use it I end up with an empty archive. I figured that the files must have been dodgy, but I tried copying them onto my windows box and opened them with winrar with no problem. Can anyone tell me why or if there is a way around this?

Did you try the ebcd-rar file that comes with the rar package? For example:

Code:

tar xzvf rarlinux-3.3.b3.tar.gz
cd rar/ebcd
../rar x ebcd-0_6_0-pro.rar

That should extract the whole ebcd-0_6_0-pro package.

The problem was that I hadn't used non-free sources for the unrar package.
