Sorry if this topic has been flogged to death but I am struggling here
I decided to try and set up a network in the house using a Debian Woody installation as a file/print server. Everything is set up and working well except printing.
I have an HP DeskJet 720c connected to the server through the parallel port. I installed CUPS on the server and can print locally using pnm2ppa.
The problem I have is that I cannot connect to the printer from any of the clients on my network. I have a laptop running Gentoo with KDE 3.1 and when I try to set up the printer through the Print Manager the network scan does not detect the printer (using the "Remote CUPS" option with the server IP address and port 631).
After reading a few articles I added some settings to the CUPS config file to ensure the clients had permission to print:
----------cupsd.conf----------
<Location /printers>
## Anonymous access (default)
AuthType None
## Require a username and password (Basic authentication)
#AuthType Basic
#AuthClass User
## Require a username and password (Digest/MD5 authentication)
#AuthType Digest
#AuthClass User
## Restrict access to local domain
Order Deny,Allow
Deny From All
Allow From 127.0.0.1 192.168.0.11 192.168.0.12
</Location>
----------end cupsd.conf----------
I also checked to make sure that port 631 (which is the IPP port right?) was open using nmap (nmap -O -sT 192.168.0.10):
----------nmap output----------
Starting nmap V. 2.54BETA31 (
www.insecure.org/nmap/ )
Interesting ports on server0.brixwold (192.168.0.10):
(The 1546 ports scanned but not shown below are in state: closed)
Port State Service
9/tcp open discard
13/tcp open daytime
22/tcp open ssh
25/tcp open smtp
37/tcp open time
53/tcp open domain
139/tcp open netbios-ssn
631/tcp open cups
Remote operating system guess: Linux Kernel 2.4.0 - 2.4.17 (X86)
Uptime 0.067 days (since Wed Jun 11 19:59:36 2003)
Nmap run completed -- 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 1 second
----------end nmap output----------
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks.
