can't get to my domain's site from LAN

i have apache running, and im behind an ipcop firewall.

it times out when i try to access my website (located on our lan) through its domain name, i can only get to it by using its local ip address.

any ideas as to why its doing this?

If it is an iptables/chains firewall it will not forward back to the lan. You will need to either override the DNS entry in eah hosts file on the lan so that it uses the lan IP address or you could set up a DMZ with an extra LAN card on the firewall.

Yes that is right. You will need to put an entry in the hosts file of each machine on your lan:
linux - /etc/hosts
win9x - C:\windows\hosts
win2k/XP - C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

With the windows files make sure that there is no extenstion. In win9x they had a sample file with a .sam extenstion. The hosts file should have no extension.

The entry should be something like:
192.168.1.100 www.yourdomain.com

To give it multiple names:
192.168.1.100 www.yourdomain.com yourdomain.com server
