Post C++ programming

Hi

I would like to start programming in Linux (C++), but don’t know where to start.
I am familiar with C++, but I am now looking for a interface to program in. (in the console if possible).

Any Ideas?

we'll be grilled alive!

you mean an ide? check out anjuta for gnome, really good, and seamlessly integrates glade (gtk gui builder) into it's system. it's primarily for gnome (well.. it uses gtk at least) but it's very good. There's kide for kde (ICK) no idea if it's nice or not. in general i'd recommend looking for any ide that uses the Scintilla code rendering engine, as it's a fairly widely used code engine, that works really well. anjuta uses it for one. but then, that's not on console. i think the only useful "ide" for console is emacs, but if i'm working in console, i just program in pico.

To start off with check out the free library at http://informit.com they have a couple of C++ book's you can read online, they also have a alot of other book's worth reading.
In one of those book's it should tell you how to compile & run a program from the command line.
Hope that help's

Lightbulb have several ideas

(1) send me your email address and I'll email you my C++/Java/Unix Multithreading Review
(2) use
alias vi=vim
vi xxx.cc
enter a C++ program, save and exit via :wq
(3) g++ -o xxx xxx.cc
./xxx

use g++ -o xxx xxx.cc -lqt for many Qt programs

(4) Redhat 7.2 has Qt 2.3.1 installed. See Qt examples that have makefiles. Qt has Developer that allows gui development from an ide.
Qt has many classes that come with full binary and source support.

The book below 0672318695 explains how to set up environment variables. I'll email you a .bash_profile that will set up environment variable for Redhat 7.2

(5) I regard forte as useless though free through www.sun.com

(6) books on Qt and Linux C++
www.amazon.com...look as these books..ISBN
0672318695 (I've used this one)

0672318954
