building kernel for another machine

I would like to build a kernel for an old slow machine but I dont have the patients.

Can I build the kernel on my much faster machine then copy it to the other machine easily?

Would I have to copy the whole directory section over eg.

/usr/src/linkernel directory/
then on the destination machine, install kernel and modules??

The easiest way would be to type "make", then go to bed. Finish it in the morning. No patience required.

Seriously, unless your faster machine is running the exact same distro and kernel, you will have to hurdle a lot to make the kernel you need. Especially for optimizing for the older machine. It can be done, but you will really need some patience to do it.
