booting a distro within an already booted distro

I am curious. Can I boot a linux distro in one that is already booted? For example can I boot SuSE 9.1 in Mandrake 10.0? Maybe using konsole or something? Or do I need to have an emulator like Boch's. I am just wondering if I can do it, not that I really need to, lol.

You can use something like VMWare to run one OS inside another. Bochs works but it's a little hard to use and incredibly slow.

From a practical point of view, I would say No. You can't boot two OS's simultaneously, and besides, I'm not sure how you would manage to kick off a second boot-up process from a machine that's already running. -- J.W.

You might be able to manage an approximation of it by using the chroot command...

Isn't this what User-mode Linux (the kernel config) is for? I don't know much about it, but afaik, the purpose of it is to run one distro inside another so that you can develop for the other distro without having to "run" it the normal way.
