Hello, I was getting a little tired of Mandrake plus experienced linux users have told me that although its very user friendly, its not necesarily the most powerful. What distro should I get?
Try them all and see which one you like most. It's all preferences and opinions as this is asked at least daily from members with all the same type of responses. You should try searching to get a better idea.
Powerful for what? I guess that you're at your Linux beginnings because

Maybe you should instead listen to what others say: "if it ain't broke, tweak it". You'll eventually break it, you'll get the chance to learn something more on Linux while repairing it and after a while you'll be able to switch to something like Slackware or Debian without much hassle, being more aware of what's going on behind the scene. Just MHO, if you think you're ready jump straight to one of the above.
Been using Slackware for quite awhile now. And after using Slackware, I will probably NEVER use another distro again! lol! I absolutely love slack and dont WANT to use anything else anymore! (Well maybe except for the occasional *BSD logon ;-)
Everyone has different tastes, so you'll have to decide for yourself, but I know an awful lot of people, who tried slack after using other distro's, and never went back. Certainyl worth giving it a try!
I like Debian. I love the update and install via apt-get and I can choose whether I want the stable or testing version of applications. Lots of choices, lots of configurability. Seems good to me.
Okay, seems this is just going to turn into another one of the many millions of thread we have asking what the best distro is and everyone is going to give their own favorite/opinion. Closing this thread as we can contribute to the many others we have asking this very same question.
