that would be a link. Can you go in that directory and then do
./vi /etc/fstab
If vi can be found, it should work.

ill see, then im off to bed cos I've got college in the morning and I'll have Knoppix in the morning anyway... thanks very much btw, give me a year and ill be the one giving newbies... hold on a min, im a member now

nope just says command not found. oh well knoppix is 56% downloaded and it'll b done in 1 1/2 hours, im going to bed now I'll update tomorrow if I run into problems but hopefully I can get knoppix working and edit fstab with gedit or one of the programs im used to, thanks
