Hi all,
I've recently acquired an
old celeron computer and I've been trying to figure out how to put it into good use. My idea is to find a way to routinely backup my entire hard drive to it (possibly using cron). Unfortunately I don't have a clue how to go about this.
I completely wiped out its old windows 98 install and I'm plan to install Gentoo on it. I also plan on installing a second larger hard drive to accommodate the backup as its 10GB one is too small.
My question is what would I need to do to accomplish this? For example what programs or scripts would I need? Also how would the hard drive I'm going to be putting in have to be setup with regards to partitions? The computer I want to backup is 80GB and has four partitions:
Code:
sda1: NTFS
sda2: Reiserfs (boot)
sda3: swap
sda4: Reiserfs (/)
Obviously I really don't want to back up the swap partition if I don't need too.
Also important is recovery, once I get the backup going smoothly I'll need to learn how to recover if need be. Would I be able to recover only the partitions I need too (for example if windows goes bad) or would I need to bring back the entire hard drive?
Sorry if I'm not making sense, any questions please ask! Thanks.
