Autoconfig Question

I'm reading a guide that implies that Autoconfig is not needed on the target computer; the one that the application is being installed on.

Is this correct?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Sorry about the late reply. From 'man autoconf';
Quote:
NAME
autoconf - Generate configuration scripts

SYNOPSIS
autoconf [OPTION]... [TEMPLATE-FILE]

DESCRIPTION
Generate a configuration script from a TEMPLATE-FILE if given, or `configure.ac'
if present, or else `configure.in'. Output is sent to the standard output if
TEMPLATE-FILE is given, else into `configure'.

2 Autoconf
Autoconf is a tool for producing shell scripts that automatically configure soft-
ware source code packages to adapt to many kinds of UNIX-like systems. The
configuration scripts produced by Autoconf ( called ’configure’ ) are inde-
pendent of Autoconf when they are run, so their users do not need to have
Autoconf
If I understand your query, the answers are within the 'man autoconf' & the page you referenced. You use 'autoconf' to create a script to run on particular systems. You can provide a template to use while creating the script for the particular system. This script is used by a (end) user on their system to set things up as configured. 'autoconf' is just a tool to help the developer provide the necessary formatted scripts to end users.

Autoconf Tutorial may help you. Sure a basic tutorial but informative thus helpful.
