Auto login once as root...

I'm not sure if this falls under the general catagory or not but here goes.
We have an image created that we want to blow out to machines in our labs. What we need to happen is after the image is out, we need the box to log in as a user with root privelages to be able to run some scripts that set it's IP configuration as well as a few other items.
Is there a way to have the box log in with root privelages once to run these scripts and then log back off setting up the machine for general "non-root" users?

Why don't you just start your scripts from the rc.local script so that they are run when the system boots?

It seems like you could also set this up to run as a cron job?

When you say "log in as a user with root privileges" , are you talking about a remote ssh or ftp?
